The Victorian Olympics
Decades before the Modern Olympics came to London in 1908, the British were already celebrating being the greatest country in the world ever with a pantheon of strange sports.
These sports reflected the interests & traditions of the Victorian people - notably Londoners - & provided a respite from the darkness, dirt & gin palaces. Unfortunately, many of the events were preserved for the rich, notably Champagne Shooting, Coin Throwing & Shoe Matching. Although, sometimes after an excellent harvest, the poor could be found participating in an exciting game of vegetable arranging. How things have changed!
So let us celebrate those amazing days one last time! Feel free to take part in these bizarre & frankly boring sports in honour of good old Queen Victoria. Let the games begin!
